Homeless of Knysna
PrizeHonorable Mention in Painting
Knysna is a jewel on the Cape Garden Route coast of South Africa. However, its also home to a large population of homeless who take advantage of the mild weather and community support groups.
While they may be nomadic, each person has a story and a dignity, which I wanted to capture in a series of portraits.
Bio Harnessing the emotion of chaos and conflict of his work as a humanitarian in some of the most incredible places on earth, Jan invites you to engage in the unforgettable conversations behind each unique art piece, while observing his painting style, using only his fingers to create vibrantly colourful Impressionistic images. Jarring angles and intense colours give way to flowing curves and pockets of calm. Capturing a moment, a feeling, an expression.
Initially trained at the Johannesburg College of Art, Jan has won numerous international awards
