A series inspired by the neighborhood of Westlake, Los Angeles, and how local families and businesses are adapting to the many changes in the community. Emphasis is placed on the way tradition and innovation intersect when people are trying to survive. For this project I interviewed my neighbors and local small business owners. I heard first hand the impact of gentrification. To bring in extra income the local Carniceria has started to rent out parts of the market space for parties while the local Botanica has started doing clothing alterations in a spare room.
