This work is from a series of paintings, ten in total, all dealing with chaos, indecision and the maelstrom of life. My attitude to process was simply to throw out any pre-conceived ideas or self-consciousness when working. I am driven by a desire to experiment and work with my instincts. There is an exhilarating descent into the atmosphere of these works, they become a kind of strange, moody terrain that has many layers. I have always been driven by music, and this series was emotionally shaped by the sweeping orchestral heaviness of Scandinavian metal bands.

Hannah studied Art at the University of West of England, before deciding to work as a music photographer in London. She moved into painting seeking greater artistic autonomy and an arena in which to be truly experimental. With full emotional energy placed upon every canvas, Hannah's paintings explore the state of restlessness, chaos and chance that life represents, and the challenges of retaining a sense of one’s own capability and autonomy in the face of this.
