Loom creates an instant sense of nostalgia, finding a balance between practicality and sentimentality. Designed to bridge the gap between trend-based or disposable pieces of the “fast furniture” market and the emotional connection to furniture, Loom encourages customization and change over time. The multi-purpose wooden frame allows individuals to weave their own seat using pre-looped materials and wooden dowels. By involving individuals in the process of creating furniture, they are encouraged to prolong the lifespan of their piece, resulting in furniture which gains character with age.
Bio I discovered Design at age 15, growing up in London with a love for both the arts and sciences. After moving to Seattle to study Industrial Design at the University of Washington, I learnt to find the story behind a design and appreciate the innate connections we have with three-dimensional space. Throughout my education and since graduation, I have come to realize that my personal connection to design is grounded in emotion. Memories and nostalgia are integral to how I connect with objects and places that are significant in my life, and I hope to celebrate this in the work that I create.
